Aims of the Project

The main purpose of this project is to support teachers of kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades who have students with refugee and immigrant status in their classrooms in terms of mathematics education by providing them with resources within the framework of school-family-society collaboration that can be adapted to various disciplines, and to develop an education model together with curriculum materials, that can be used by teachers who work with immigrants in Turkey and. This project has three sub-purposes:

  • To support teachers in creating a dynamic mathematics education environment incorporating strategies and methods based on peer learning, play and drama in a way to that meets the needs of all students in the classroom;
  • To support teachers gaining awareness of the relationship between learning the academic language of mathematics and learning mathematics;
  • To support teachers taking leadership roles in collaboration with their colleagues, in school – family and child – societal relations, adapting mathematics education as a cultural practice and linking the sociocultural resources of students and families with refugee and immigrant status with the mathematics curriculum.
